The Samburu Maasai

NOT FOR SALE

80 x 120 cm  –  Oil on canvas

The Maasai and the Samburu are cousins. This Maasai is an extraordinary portrayal of how similar both ethnic groups may look. I met this Maasai near the Kenyan border with Tanzania and was struck by his elaborate necklaces and decorations and especially his top-of-the-ear earrings that the Samburu wear. It was the first time I had met a Maasai who looked so like a Samburu, hence the name of his painting. His hair has been shaved which is more normal for the Maasai than for the Samburu, but again, that could be a requirement for his work.

All my painting have a special anti-UV rays varnish sprayed on to protect the colors from fading or going yellow and to protect the painting as a whole. A damp sponge may be applied to this varnish to remove dust and clean the painting.
