Young Pokot Woman

NOT FOR SALE

50 x 50 cm  –  Oil on canvas

The Pokot no longer wear their traditional cloths and necklaces but they did when we asked to visit this small village. The beautiful necklaces are huge and not really made any more. This lady was one of the Pokot women that we met. Her head band is unique to the Pokot and signifies that she is married. It is made out of round flat beads cut from ostrich shells and cauri shells that dangle on her forehead. They are a decorative quest for fertility.

All my paintings have a special anti-UV rays varnish sprayed on to protect the colors from fading or going yellow and to protect the painting as a whole. A damp sponge may be applied to this varnish to remove dust and clean the painting.
