Two young unmarried dancers

NOT FOR SALE

41 x 33 cm  –  Oil on canvas

These two young Samburu girls are not yet married, which can be seen by the numerous strings of red beads they are wearing. Only married women can wear the huge colorful wide necklaces over these strings of red beads. I love the red ocre and animal fat paste that they have decorated themselves with along their chins and on their necks. They close their eyes and “hum” in a trance as they move their shoulders backwards and forwards to make their beads dance to the rythme of the Samburu moran (warrior) songs.

The painting has a special anti-UV-rays varnish that protects the painting from sun and moon light and from turning yellow. The varnish also enables you to wipe a damp cloth over the painting if required, to clean it.
