Rendille Bride

NOT FOR SALE

80 x 80 cm  –  Oil on canvas

This Rendille bride is wearing these beautiful and sophisticated decorations, given to her for her wedding. She is wearing an mporro necklace, made from threads of palm leaves dyed black and/or giraffe tail hairs, red beads and goats leather dyed red from animal fat and ocre. She is also wearing a special beaded hat-like decoration that is worn only on special occasions after her wedding day. The metal cross on her forehead is a fertility cross also worn by the Samburu, Maasai and other nomadic people. Her eyes depict the unknown future that her marriage is imposing on her.

All my paintings have a special anti-UV rays varnish sprayed on to protect the colors from fading or going yellow and to protect the painting as a whole. A damp sponge may be applied to this varnish to remove dust and clean the painting.
