Fragility

This mother miraculously has three cubs—three small lives poised on the edge of an unforgiving world. For them, growing into adulthood will be a battle for survival. Today, many female cheetahs no longer bear young at all; the weight of constant stress has become too great.

Their world is shrinking. Expanding human populations encroach upon their ancient ranges, tourism grows ever more intrusive, and the rising numbers of hyenas and lions intensify the dangers they face. Each of these pressures chips away at their chances, leaving their future increasingly uncertain.

And so, I paint them—these exquisitely beautiful, heartbreakingly fragile creatures. Through my work, I try to hold them close, to keep them alive in colour and spirit… before they vanish from their wild home ranges.
